  1. I, too, carry funds in a special pocket, especially when I know I'm going to be in an area with a high level of street people. I know some of them, and I can spot the ones who are scamming the tourists -- they don't get anything from me -- but I frequently contribute a little something to those I know are in genuine need. I've also been known to spring for lunch on occasion...
